The Global Battery Alliance has introduced a prototype of its Battery Passport, which aims to establish sustainable and responsible battery value chains. The Passport provides information about the sustainability and lifecycle requirements of batteries. It collects and shares trusted data among stakeholders in the battery industry, including details about material sourcing, chemical composition, manufacturing history, and sustainability performance. The goal is to give end-users a quality seal based on a battery's sustainability performance, enabling consumers to make more informed purchasing decisions and encouraging sustainable practices in the industry. The GBA unveiled the proof of concept at the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting, and the Battery Passport has received support from various organizations and governments. The GBA will continue to develop the passport and create a framework for benchmarking batteries based on sustainability criteria, allowing for industry progress tracking and the issuance of quality seals.
